Who it's for
Just picked up sticks, or already chasing Meshuggah? Every song on Woodshed answers the three questions you actually have:
How we rate
Every song gets a score from 1–10 for drums, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass and keys, the same scale whether it's Metallica or Meshuggah, so a 6.4 means the same amount of work no matter which band or instrument you're looking at. Scores weigh speed, stamina, technique and how long you have to hold it together, and every song gets a one-line note on exactly what makes it hard. Track listings are checked album by album against two independent sources before anything is scored, standard editions only, no live records, no compilations.
The big Wednesday/Saturday releases, explained properly, not just a one-line bullet. Day-to-day small fixes are in "What's been fixed recently" below instead.
Big updates land Wednesdays and Saturdays. In between, I'm constantly changing and updating things with small fixes and features, pretty much every day.
Hey there, I'm a 12-year-old developer who loves metal music and coding.
I started playing the drums, but I didn't know where to start, so I went to YouTube and searched for beginner songs to play in the metal genre. There were so many, and that's when I got an idea: why not build a website where people can know which songs they can start with, for any instrument (bass, keys, drums, guitar, etc.).
So this became my side project. I try to constantly update it and fix the ratings. Thanks for stopping by. I hope Woodshed helps you find your next song to learn.
